Threads is incorprating live scores for sporting events, beginning with the NBA

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed on Friday that Threads, the Twitter-like app by Instagram, is introducing live scores for sports games. The initial rollout of this feature includes testing for NBA games, with plans to incorporate support for additional leagues in the future.

This development arrives as Threads competes with X, which has offered live scores for sports games for approximately a decade. With this addition, Threads aims to appeal to users who typically utilize X for discussing live games and staying updated on current events. Beyond simply providing live scores, Threads enables users to tap on a team’s logo to access discussions related to that team and connect with other followers.

Users can utilize Threads to search for a game within a day of its occurrence and access its start time. While the game is ongoing, users can search to view the current score. After the game concludes, they can search again to see the final score.

The introduction of live scores represents Threads’ latest endeavor to enhance its platform and compete with X. Recently, Threads introduced its “trending now” feature to all U.S. users, aligning it more closely with X by enabling users to discover ongoing discussions on the social network.
