The Google Play Store now has the capability to download several Android apps at the same time

After conducting intermittent tests over recent years, Google appears to have widely implemented simultaneous app downloads and installations on the Play Store, which is a significant quality of life and enhancement.

To observe this feature, try installing two apps such as Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, which are larger downloads. You’ll notice that they will download and install simultaneously instead of waiting for one to finish before starting the other. You can monitor their progress in the Play Store and on your home screen, similar to the screenshots provided.

This updated behavior only applies to new installations and supports two apps at once. Any additional downloads beyond this will remain “Pending” until one of the initial pair finishes. By comparison, the iOS App Store can handle up to three concurrent downloads and installations.

Currently, Google Play’s simultaneous downloads feature does not extend to application updates, which would be more practical given that updates are more frequent than fresh installations. It’s hoped that this is just a starting point for Google Play, with plans to broaden the feature in the future. This enhancement will be particularly beneficial when setting up a new Android device.
