Snapchat’s ‘My AI’ chatbot is now capable of creating reminders and countdowns within the app

Snapchat has announced that users can now utilize its My AI chatbot to set reminders directly within the app. Alongside this update, Snapchat is introducing a range of new features, including editable chats, AI-generated custom Bitmoji styles, map reactions, emoji reactions, and more.

With this AI reminders feature, Snapchat aims to encourage users to use its platform for setting reminders and countdowns instead of relying solely on their device’s default clock app. Users can simply ask the My AI chatbot to set a reminder or countdown within the chat window or while conversing with friends.

This update allows users to set reminders for tasks like completing assignments or counting down to upcoming events, further expanding Snapchat’s functionality beyond social networking and potentially increasing user engagement in productivity-related activities.

Regarding the ability to edit chats, Snapchat users with a subscription to Snapchat+ will soon have the option to edit their messages within five minutes of sending them. This feature will eventually become available to all users in the future, according to the company.

Furthermore, users will soon be able to create custom digital clothing for their Bitmoji using generative AI. For example, by entering prompts like “vibrant graffiti” or “skull flower,” the app will generate a unique pattern that users can adjust by zooming in or out. Once satisfied with the design, they can apply it to their Bitmoji or save it for later use.

In another update, Snapchat users who have allowed location sharing with friends can now easily react to their friends’ map locations. For example, if you spot a friend during your morning commute, you can send them a wave, or if you see that a friend has arrived home safely after hanging out, you can send them a heart.

Additionally, Snapchat is introducing emoji reactions within chats. While users have been able to respond quickly with their Bitmoji, they can now use emojis for reactions, aligning with popular features seen on platforms like Instagram and Messenger.

These new features coincide with Snap’s recent report of 422 million daily active users in Q1 2024, representing a 10% year-over-year increase of 39 million users. The number of Snapchat+ subscribers has also more than tripled year-over-year, exceeding 9 million subscribers.
